The San Simon Health Center (formerly called Westside Health Center) is located in the village of San Simon located in the remote western region of the Tohono O'odham Nation Indian Reservation (southern Arizona, approximately 39 miles west of Sells, Arizona - Hwy 86, mile marker 74). The San Simon Health Center is the new state-of -the -art satellite healthcare facility of the I.H.S. Sells Service Unit . The Sells Service Unit consists of the Sells Hospital (an AHA affiliated, Joint Commissioned accredited, 14 bed hospital); and two other satellite health centers (San Xavier Health Center in Tucson and the Santa Rosa Health Center - located in the Santa Rosa village,
northwestern region of the Tohono O'odham Nation).
The San Simon Health Center has Dental, Optometry, Podiatry and Family Practice clinics Monday through Friday. Additionally, San Simon has support and ancillary health services: Medical Laboratory, Pharmacy, Medical Imaging, Nutrition, Social Services, Public Health Nursing, Public Health Education, Facilities Management, Medical Records, Housekeeping, and Security. In addition to the I.H.S. clinics and personnel, the Tribal Health Transportation Services and Behavioral Health Program are housed in the San Simon Health Center. The Tribal Adult Protective Services and Tribal Child Welfare are located on the west side of the San Simon Health Center facility (approximately 75 feet away). This partnership with the Tohono O'odham Nation's health programs has created a collaborative
approach for our patients at the San Simon Health Center. San Simon Health Center's patients are primarily Tohono O'odham. The O'odham once lived on the land base known as the Papagueria in the southwest (extending south to Sonora, Mexico, north to Central Arizona - just north of Phoenix, Arizona), west to the Gulf of California, and east to the San Pedro River. It had been home to the O'odham for thousands of years. The O'odham language, which derives from the Uto-Aztecan language group, with varying dialects is the primary language spoken on the current Tohono O'odham Nation Indian Reservation.
